CAP United Auditions vs. Unified Auditions

CAP United auditions, musical theatre intensive

CAP United Auditions

  • Audition early in the process
  • Callbacks can be scheduled for the same weekend
  • Students audition for all participating college programs
  • Students audition with a 3.5 minute audition package
  • Live, professional pianist is provided
  • Students audition material is vetted so no one is using the same material
  • Students will learn an original dance for each day of auditions from a highly experienced, professional dancer/choreographer
  • Many CAP schools allow students to wait to submit applications until they have received a callback, which saves hundreds of dollars and focuses students’ financial resources on schools that they have a higher chance of being accepted to.
  • The CAP Team guides each student through CAP United Auditions with individual attention and care
  • A hotel discount is provided for each CAP student/family, saving families more money
  • Each day is organized and managed by the CAP Team, so there is someone to which you can direct questions
  • The CAP culture is professional, positive and supportive

Unified Auditions

  • You do NOT register for Unifieds. There is no team or institution running the event.
  • Audition at the end of January or beginning of February
  • Winter weather in NYC and Chicago can lead to travel delays and concerns.
  • Book your hotel for the Saturday before the event begins through the Thursday of the event. Once you have organized your callback schedule, you can adjust your hotel reservation.
  • It is recommended that you stay at the Palmer House, but there is also a Hampton Inn across the street that is less expensive.
  • Hotel staff know that the event is taking place, but they have NO INFORMATION regarding schedules or small rooms that schools use for callbacks.
  • Get a copy of the hotel floor plan from the front desk, mark where schools are located and wall the multiple floors beforehand. It is a very large hotel and the rooms are scattered throughout, with a somewhat confusing elevator system to navigate. Leave time in between appointments to move from floor to floor – it usually takes longer than expected.
  • This event is mostly used for callbacks, not initial auditions since it is late in the audition process.
  • Students must schedule individual callbacks and auditions through each school separately.
  • Students can only audition for a few schools each day.
  • Dance auditions may happen the Saturday or Sunday BEFORE the actual start of the audition week, requiring more time and expense.
  • Most auditions will be done with pre-recorded tracks.
  • Students may find that many other students are auditioning with the same material they are using.
  • Most schools don’t have the space to hold their own dance auditions, some dance auditions are even held in the hallway.
  • No one is in charge of the event. There is no one to ask questions of or get guidance from.
  • There is no discount on the expense of the hotel.
  • The culture of Unifieds is dependent on the students in each space.
  • REMEMBER: You do NOT register for Unifieds because there is no one in charge of the event. You must schedule each appointment with individual schools yourself.
